Founded in 1973, The Buttery is a long-established rehabilitation provider supporting people affected by substance use and mental health concerns. Its personalised approach brings together evidence-based counselling, holistic therapies and practical recovery skills, helping each guest work towards sustainable change with compassionate support. Care combines structured individual therapy with mindfulness, creative activities, physical movement and relapse prevention. Treatment may address alcohol and drug addiction alongside concerns such as anxiety, depression, trauma, burnout, gambling and problematic internet use. Plans are tailored to the individual rather than relying on a single pathway for every guest. The facility is set in Binna Burra in the Byron Bay hinterland, approximately 18 kilometres from Byron Bay. Gardens, walking trails, natural surroundings and mountain views create a peaceful setting where guests can step away from everyday pressures and concentrate on their wellbeing. Residential and retreat care is complemented by opportunities for yoga, swimming, hiking, reading and sightseeing. Private rooms, gourmet dining and outdoor relaxation areas add comfort, while individualised aftercare can help guests maintain connection and continue applying recovery strategies after leaving the programme.
