About Kurihama Medical and Addiction Center

Kurihama Medical and Addiction Center is a specialist hospital in Yokosuka offering medically guided treatment for alcohol and drug addiction. Founded in 1941, the centre has played an influential role in Japanese addiction care, developing a patient-centred model that respects each person’s autonomy while providing structured support for lasting recovery. Treatment combines medical assessment and withdrawal management with cognitive behavioural therapy, group therapy, psychoeducation and medication-assisted treatment where clinically appropriate. Residential, detox and outpatient pathways are available, with multidisciplinary input from psychiatrists, physicians, nurses, psychologists, social workers and occupational therapists. Programmes help patients understand addiction, identify patterns connected with substance use and practise realistic strategies for preventing relapse. Depending on clinical needs, care may also include occupational therapy, self-help group participation, family education and support with practical arrangements for returning to community life. The hospital occupies a spacious coastal campus near Nobi Beach, with green hills, gardens and views across Tokyo Bay. Access to nature, recreational facilities and a choice of private or shared, air-conditioned rooms provide a calm setting for stabilisation, rehabilitation and ongoing recovery work.

Activities

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

Structured CBT sessions help patients recognise thoughts, emotions and situations associated with substance use. Participants develop practical coping skills for cravings, high-risk situations and relapse prevention.

Group Therapy and Recovery Meetings

Facilitated groups create opportunities to learn from shared experiences, practise communication and build accountability. Group-based care is a central feature of the centre’s addiction treatment approach.

Addiction Psychoeducation

Educational sessions explore dependence, the physical and psychological effects of alcohol or drugs, and the principles of recovery. The material is designed to help patients make informed choices after treatment.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy supports physical activity, daily structure and gradual rehabilitation. Programmes may be adapted for older adults or patients who require a less physically demanding schedule.

Stay away from this dumb, this hospital is a waste of time and money, it’s the worst hospital I have ever seen, it should be closed! Looks like more of a horror movie that has live patients as guinea pigs.

Came here on emergency. Hospital would not see me because it was past the hours they see walk-in patients.

This time, from April 28, 2026 to May 28, 2026, for about a month, I received a great deal of help from Dr. Kusaba or Dr. Yokoyama at the National Hospital Organization Kurihama Medical Center (Nobi 5-chome, Yokosuka City) for the mental treatment or rehabilitation of my younger brother, who was certified for public assistance. Thanks to them, on June 18, 2026, my brother recovered to the point where he was able to live independently after moving into his new home. Thank you so much!

The location is wonderful, with the sea, mountains, wind, and scent of the ocean. The buyer was very helpful. The hospital building is old, and I can't comment on the inpatient wards as I wasn't able to enter them. The parking lot is large and free. There are no convenience stores nearby.
